No.9 – Rocking Pitcher (2015)
I have gone back and forth my entire career between making perfectly round pots and altering pots…it’s never boring in the studio. This form is a lot of fun because it starts out without a bottom and is shaped into an oval right on the wheel…carefully! By drawing the base in it naturally assumes a curve which allows the pot to rock when I’ve attached a floor to it. I love how the handle flows from the curve at the lip. That’s the kind of thing I’m paying attention to when I’m at work.
This was fired in my wood/salt kiln. It has a crackle slip and a nice ashy, salty surface, Rock on!
