No.1 – Old School Teapot (2018)
Ever since I left the Winchcombe Pottery I have been making a drop-in lid for all my teapots. Looking for a change and inspired by a little David Leach teapot I own, I tried what I call a ginger jar type of lid and that’s all I’ve made since. This teapot is the very last of the old school type which led me to take it home.
The surface is textured with a technique called chattering…but rather than a simple pattern I use the technique to change the entire surface. My black n’ blue slip covers the surface and then it was fired in my wood/salt kiln and really shows the interaction with the salt vapor.
