No.14 – Petite Crying Bartmann (2012)
Bartmann (or Bellermine as I first learned) pots were first made in Germany in medieval days. They were ornate bottles made to contain liquids of all kinds and were made by the tens of thousands. Many of them had a bearded man sprigged on the surface. Being a bearded man myself, I have long been intrigued by them for obvious reasons and I’ve made a few over the years. I’ve even carved a sprig mold of my old logo in the past. I can’t quite remember what compelled me to add the tears, but today it feels rather relevant.
It has a lovely slip made with a french kaolin that I have been hoarding for years. 5 1/2″h x 3 1/2″.
